Boethius in context

  • Publication type: Article from a collective work
  • Collective work: Boèce au fil du temps. Son influence sur les lettres européennes du Moyen Âge à nos jours
  • Author: Zarini (Vincent)
  • Abstract: This paper deals with Boethius’ situation at the moment of his fall in its political and geo-ecclesiological context and with the place of the Consolation within the prosimetrical corpus, particularly its relationship to Ennodius’ Paraenesis didascalica. That text, written only a few years earlier, gives literature pride of place within culture, whereas Boethius’ aim was to compose a true “summa” of knowledge, grounded in his position as an intellectual.
