  • Abstract: The Middle Welsh Poem Preiddeu Annwn tells the story of Arthur's voyage, along with his warband and the bard Taliesin, to an impenetrable fairyland in search of a magic cauldron. Drawing on previous work by Marged Haycock, Patrick Sims-Williams and Rachel Bromwich, this paper examines some possible sources for some of the poem’s motifs, discusses their relationship to each other, and finally relate them to the model of early medieval Welsh kingship embodied by Arthur.
