  • Abstract: In Merlin and its Vulgate Sequel, the maritime travels of Arthur and the British kings focus on Channel crossings in the context of diplomatic or military relations between England and the Continent. The maritime journeys lead to brief textual references but are regularly illuminated. The motif works highlighting the use of the stylistic interlace pattern and the episodic construction of the romance narrative.
