Décadence d’un archétype du décadentisme Jean Lorrain lecteur d’À rebours

Jean Lorrain’s work exemplifies the degrading temporality of decadentism in his rewritings of À rebours. Through the prism of Fréneuse, Bougrelon and Noronsoff, avatars of Des Esseintes, this article shows how Lorrain pushed the fin-de-siècle exemplarity of Huysmans’ character to a point where the sign was paroxysmally exhausted, presenting the figuration of the decadence of decadentism.
